AI and art – is it a new era of art?

Most of the time when someone says ‘Artificial Intelligence’ people generally think of cyborgs taking over the world or worse: taking over their jobs! But in fact, AI is helping us the most these days. Your Spotify and Netflix recommendation lists are generated by AI. Have you ever talked to Siri or Alexa? They are also AI! Therefore, contrary to what most people believe, AI is more friendly than they believe and actually helps us with our daily tasks.
You might think that the only task of artificial intelligence is to help us or not. With the latest developments, ‘can artificial intelligence produce art?’ question arose. Since art has been always a key factor of defining an era (like modern era, renaissance, art nouveau). AI is more connected to art than we may think, so it is a popular question that ‘Could artificial intelligence be the new Van Gogh?’. For example, if you go to an AI art generator website and put the words of the desired product, AI will create a painting for you! So, does this mean that artificial intelligence can really be an artist? This question can be discussed, because there is no foreseeable future for AI art but it is for sure that each day it is evolving more and more and also art is a very wide concept. In the Fundamentals of Philosophy book, it is said that “Art is a professional field of activity in which aesthetic consciousness is no longer a companion element but the main goal.”. Or some say art is a tool to leave a mark of ourselves for this world, because in the end, one day we will be gone. We don’t know if AI can be an artist, since art and artist itself are complex concepts and everyone has their own sense of them. Yet, AI is not a person nor has any feelings. If we can code feelings and a personality type to AI, can it produce art?
HOW AI ART WORKS?
DeepDream is a computer vision program created by a Google engineer. It uses algorithmic pareidolia to discover and enhance patterns in photographs using a convolutional neural network, giving the purposefully overprocessed images a dream-like look evocative of a psychedelic trip.
The phrase “deep dreaming” (which now refers to a group of similar methods) was made famous by Google’s program to describe the creation of visuals that induce desired activations in a trained deep network. Similar programs like that may be listed as GOOGLE AI–CHIMERA PAINTER, ARTBREEDER, RUNWAY ML and LUMINAR AI.
A SUCCESS STORY
Steve Coulson, an artist, has always desired to publish his own comic. My inability to sketch has always been an issue, he claims. However, Coulson released a stunning comic book titled Summer Island in 2022. The 40-page folk-horror tale about a sea god festival includes elaborate images with a consistent aesthetic style, all of which were developed with the assistance of artificial intelligence.

It is a fact that AI improves productivity and you may ask ‘’how?’’. Let us explain.

AI technologies enable time savings.
Many of the current software programs used by artists are beginning to include some rudimentary artificial intelligence (AI) to assist automate simple repetitive chores. It is hoped that this would speed up tool usage and lessen the need for laborious manual procedures.
AI really fosters more creativity among artists.
AI might increase accessibility to illustration, fostering the growth of new artists and reviving the visual arts. These AI technologies will be useful for visual artists and illustrators to develop ideas, find inspiration, and experiment with prototypes before finalizing their work. It is impossible to overstate how important this is. Artists can invest more time developing their skill if they have more free time. As AI and ML digital art package features advance in sophistication, new tools are also added to allow artists to experiment in novel and unanticipated ways. AI-based solutions may also be utilized to produce work that goes beyond what a human artist may have previously imagined was feasible.
Collaboration on creative projects is increasing, speeding up project completion.
AI is making it easier for clients, managers, and artists to collaborate than ever before. Previously, a project brief was agreed upon, and each member of the chain would head off into their own corner to do their assigned task.
With advancements in AI-powered technologies such as Agile and Google’s Spirit, the “ideation” process is becoming more accessible to all stakeholders. This will assist to expedite project completion and ensure that everyone is aware of the end goals of the creative project in question.

So, if you are still worrying, AI art will help artists, not replace them.
